Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People

This is a new thing I've decided to start. (Kaitis') Clickless Classics, meaning they're CD's so good, not a track has to, needs to, or even should be skipped. These are albums that are timeless, breathtaking, meaningful and they must be heard by anyone willing to listen.


      
In 2002, Canadian band and Indie rock supergroup Broken Social Scene, released their second album You Forgot it in People. This album has been described as the band's, "commercial and artistic breakthrough." It won the Alternative Album of the Year Juno Award in 2003, and has subsequently been featured on many top album lists. This is Clickless Classics.

1. Capture the Flag - An ambient, wordless song, perfectly captures the vibe of this whole CD, a relaxed feel, done by musical geniuses


2. KC Accidental - Booming, echoed, passionate drumming, and psychedelic guitar, leads into calming, orchestral-string backed vocals, for one verse. Leads back into epic drumming, and transitions perfect into the next song.


3. Stars and Sons - A song featuring the best clapping part since Boston's first CD. The rhythm guitar in the song is the same the whole time, yet manages never to get old. Some crazy sounding lead electric brings us into the next song.


4. Almost Crimes (Radio Kills Remix) - An uptempo rock song, with duel vocals, by both sexes. The background electronic noises are fucking awesome in this song, a phaser set to kill is the only way to describe them. The fact it's a remix just makes it that much better.


5. Looks Just Like the Sun- A stripped down acoustic piece with such a relaxed vibe. On this track musical direction is given to another member of the band, Kevin Drew. Something strange and unique in a studio recording. It makes this song seem more real somehow, It may be my favorite on the album.


6. Pacific Theme - The first instrumental on the album. The lead guitar has something I would call a wild west feel. Halfway through the song picks up, and gains a horns. Two great songs for the price of one.


7. Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old-Girl - If you didn't know better you could easily miss the transition into this song, it's flawless. The computerized female vocals over electronic drums quickly fades into a mid tempo Indie-folk masterpiece that you won't soon forget.


8. Cause = Time - I fucking love this song. The vocal melodies and bass combine so perfectly, and create something so catchy. The chorus will be in your head for days. Solid lead guitar makes this another fantastic song.


9. Late Night Bedroom Rock for the Missionaries - The second instrumental track, a spacey, slow, reverberated song with an electronic backed beat. Not so much rock as the title would have you believe.


10. Shampoo Suicide - Another song with a well achieved transition. Almost an instrumental, there is mixed in vocals, but quite quiet, and they probably weren't intended for this song, but work extremely well.


11. Lover's Spit - A slow song, with what i'd personally call charming vocals. Very piano heavy, A six minute epic, that's basically about the art of oral sex. Another song that I really like because of the vibe it has, it's a big song, but very calming.


12. I'm Still Your Fag - aka The ballad of Keith and David. This is another song that is very stripped down. Quiet, calm, vocals are mixed with light drumming and individually picked guitar notes.


13. Pitter Patter Goes my Heart - Starting out with a string section, and building up with drums until the last thirty seconds of ambient noises fades out, makes you think listening to this amazing album again isn't a bad idea.
